About

Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a great way to ad length, volume, dimension or additional color without the cost and complexity of hair colour corrections when you change your mind.

If you’re considering hair extensions there are a few things to consider and certain things to keep in mind when prepping for your install appointment as well as after care instructions.

As for the brands of hair; I use Babe and Dream Catcher hair extensions which are 100% REMY silicone free human hair, 100% REMY and Ethically Sourced.  Remy hair means that the cuticles are intact & aligned in the same direction

This means there are no synthetic fillers, with all of the cuticles sloping in the same direction. This decreases matting and tangling for a smoother, softer look.

It also means hair can be washed, dryed and heat styled. Hair is available in 50 different colors that range from natural shades, ombre’s, to blends & vivids. We offer straight, body wave, and medium curl & tight curl options (available in our African American hair). Body wave hair has a steamed in “S” wave.

The hair can last up to a year or more with proper care & maintenance. Our I-Tips have a polyurethane (rubberized) tip that will break down around 9-18 months. I-Tips can be sent in for re-tipping with a small fee.

Types of Hair Extensions

Currently I offer a few different methods of Hair Extensions. Tape in, i-tip, flat tip and Fusion, and now sew-in hand tied or machine sewn wefts.

They are available in straight and wavy textures. If you have very curly and textured hair, a keratin treatment or relaxer is the only way for the extensions to be compatible.

Tape Ins

take approx. 45 min to an hour to install. are available in 14", 18" & 22" at 10 wefts per package. Tape ins can be reused multiple times without the risk of shedding. Tape ins are applied using a medical grade adhesive that lasts 6-8 weeks. There is a lower strength tape available for those of you who's hair grows very quickly, or need it to last a shorter period of time which is about 4-5 weeks.

Sewn in Hand Tied Wefts

are available in 18.5 & 22.5" lengths, and 20 colors. Each pack of hair contains 64 grams of hair and 5 wefts of hair. 3 are 10" wefts and 2 are 5" wefts lasting 6-8 weeks.

Machine Sewn Wefts

are also available in 18.5 & 22.5" lengths, and 20 colors for one 36" wide weft. The 18.5" weft contains 130 grams, while the 22.5" weft contains 160 grams per package. Each weft is made of 3 single layer wefts that are sewn together. They are also thick providing lots of coverage and fullness lasting 6-8 weeks.

What kind of Hair Extensions are right for me?

There are so many different types of Hair Extension methods and it's not a one size fits all. It's very much like choosing a lip product, it is based on hair types, comfort, lifestyle, budget, and maintenance.

First consider whether you’re doing it for a special event or looking for something a little bit more permanent. If it’s only for a day clip in hair extensions are the perfect solution. They clip in to your regular hair and are to be taken out before bed. They’re also reusable and when maintained and stored properly, can be re used many times for years.

If you need something to last longer than a day. There are tape in, fusion / bonded and sew in extensions. Tape ins are on a mini weft in various widths and can also be reused. Keratin bonded extensions are clusters of strands fused into smaller sections of hair and are to be removed after 3-4 months without being able to be reused. Tape in extensions take significantly less time to install saving hundreds of dollars in install fees, and can be reused saving hundreds of dollars on the cost of hair.

Unfortunately tape ins are not idea for all hair types, and should not be applied thin hair of it can not be easily camouflaged. Keratin bonds are much smaller than wefts, can also be cut smaller for micro bonds, and are easily hide able in thinner hair.

FAQ'S

Below are common questions. Please let me know if you have any more

HOW MUCH HAIR WILL I NEED?

Hair extensions should NEVER BE be applied to thinning, damaged, hair or hair that is falling out in clumps in order to protect the integrity of the hair and follicle.

In order for hair to be properly blended, without it being obvious that there are hair extensions, hair must be at least as long as the occipital bone. Extensions should also never be longer than double the length of your natural hair in order to blend properly and not be obvious you have extensions installed.

When hair extensions are applied, you realistically need about an 1/2 to 2 inches perimeter around the hair line to camoflauge it. The thicker the hair, the less hair, the thinner the hair, the more hair. How much hair will be needed depends on the density of your own hair, the length of you hair, how thick your hair is and the length desired.

PREPPING FOR EXTENSIONS

Your natural hair should always be clean and dry for either type of bonded or taped extensions. Oils of any kind will prevent the adhesive or bond from fully attaching and affect retention.

SHOW UP TO YOUR INSTALL APPOINTMENT WITH FRESHLY WASHED AND DRIED HAIR unless you are instructed otherwise. We do not wash and dry hair at your appointment in our studio as all our services are dry. Our price reflects that as well. If you show up to your appointment without hair properly prepped we will not be able to provide your hair extension service and you will unfortunately lose your deposit.

In order to properly prep your hair; Simply wash hair at the scalp and give it a good scrub with your hands. Then thoroughly rinse and add conditioner ONLY to the ends. DO NOT PUT CONDITIONER OR ANY PRODUCT AT THE ROOTS. When you arrive at your appointment, we will take care of everything else.

HAIR EXTENSION AFTERCARE

1. Brush with care: Brush 2-3 times a day using the Babe Extension Brush only (do NOT use wet brushes, combs). Brush by holding the bond or weft (attachment area) with one hand, and start brushing the ends first. Work from the ends up to the root area, being careful NOT to gently brush at the root area. Section hair and repeat for each row of extensions.

2. Wash with care: Always brush before washing, using your Babe Extension Brush only. Use a professional SULFATE-FREE shampoo and conditioner. Be sure to wash and condition gently by using the pads of your fingers in between rows, and the palm of your hands to run shampoo/conditioner in a downward motion through ends. AVOID washing your hair upside down or scrunching/piling on top of your head.

3.Blowdrying & Styling: Choose hydrating or moisture-replenishing professional products to keep your extensions moisturized (ex: leave-in conditioner, oils, heat protectant). Apply conditioner and products carefully (avoiding the bonded or weft attachment area). Blow dry in a downward motion, to keep the hair smooth and tangle- free. Use your Babe Extension Brush in wet or dry hair to de-tangle and/or blowout. DO NOT blow dry upside down or roughly.

4. Bedtime Routine: Brush using your Babe Extension brush (making sure each layer/ row of extensions is brushed carefully). Secure your hair into a low, loose ponytail or braid hair before bed. Sleeping with a satin pillow case is also a great way to care for your extensions, and prevent breakage. NEVER go to bed with wet hair. This can cause tangling/matting and breakage.

DO’S

• Use Babe Extension Brush 2-3 times a day

• Pull hair into a loose ponytail/braid for bed

• Avoid salty or chlorinated water

• Apply oils/sprays mid-shaft to ends

• Use sulfate-free professional shampoos

DONT’S

• Go to bed with hair wet

Wash hair too frequently

• Overuse heat tools

• Expose extensions to tanning beds or sprays

Always consult with YOUR stylist regarding product usage, care and styling routines.

They may use different brands and products with different guideline.
